Fashion Captive: It’s been a while……

Hello all!  Long time no see!  I hope to be back to posting a bit more regularly in the upcoming weeks.  How has everyone been?

Above is a picture I took last year of the lovely Kirsten, but I just got around to editing and posting.

I’m trying to figure out some new projects for some upcoming posts.  If you have any ideas let me know!

xx,

Laura

Fashion Captive: Etsy Finds

I’m sure most of you are familiar with the lovely site Etsy.com .  If you’re not, you should be.  It’s a site for handmade items.  So you can buy dresses, jewelry, scarves, decorations and more all handmade my craftsmen from all over.

I was perusing the site today, and here of some of the lovely things I’ve been checking out!

This Love Knot bracelet is adorable and is made by a shop called Charm School Jewelry.  Click the picture to go directly to her site.  It’s only $12 and symbolizes love, friendship and affection.  This is one of those bracelets that I would never take off.

My next favorite is this Gold Nugget Bracelet!  It’s $28 by a shop called mpaperarts.  Love it.

My last favorite bracelet of the day is this opal one by CraeVita.  It’s $54, a little more than the others, but I appreciate it’s meaning.  Here’s what the seller said about it,

“Opal:
Opal is a stone of inspiration which enhances imagination and creativity. It helps one release inhibitions and enhances memory. Opal is also a very spiritual stone, and can help one be “invisible” in situations where they don’t care to be noticed. Opal brings happy dreams. It also eases the process of change. Physically, opal is said to be helpful for eyesight and Parkinson’s disease.”

I can spend hours on Etsy.com.  There are so many fabulous vendors and amazing things.  And typically you can find unique things that everyone else won’t necessarily have.  I love finding those one of a kind pieces you just can’t live without.  Or, well you actually could…but…well, you know :)

Go check it out.  See what you think!

Fashion Captive: Firefly: Memory Lane – The Beginning

I made the announcement this week.  Firefly is officially closing.  For those of you that don’t know.  Firefly is a ladies clothing and accessories store I opened with my mom 3 years ago.  It’s a little sad, and what I will miss most is all of the amazing people I’ve met.  Firefly had amazing customers and I absolutely LOVED being able to chat and shop with them.   We won’t close the doors for another month, so I’ll hopefully get to see everyone at least once more!   Maybe everyone can just follow me to my next adventure wherever that may be???  Yes, I like that plan.  Let’s “make it work!”

For the next few posts I’m going to upload some  pictures and go down memory lane.  Ohhhhh the memories…..

Our First Store Window Display.

Me & My momma on our first day being open.

Me and My Jeanie Beanie, before we even opened.  <3

Kaite, Kate, Kate!  She followed me from my previous venture to Firefly.  She’s now in Boston being a big shot.  I miss you Katie!!

Our first photo shoot ever!  The Salon Experience staff is amazing!

Fashion Captive: Ready for Fall??

Ok, so this past week, I did actually wear something different from the norm every day.  So, the Closet Challenge is actually happening.  The pictures just aren’t!  I will get better.

There’s a few reasons for the lack of picture taking.  The biggest reason, is that it has been HOT!  I’ve been throwing on a lot of sun dresses to keep cool, and honestly I’m not sure how interesting that is to post.  I am going to try this week to put together actual outfits, so that it will be a bit more interesting.

So who’s ready for Fall?  To me,  the great thing about Fall/Winter is that you can layer an accessorize more.  I like pulling out my jeans, sweaters, and leggings.  Although I have to be honest, I have a REALLY hard time putting on my jeans the first few times.  After wearing flowy dresses all summer, it’s difficult to get back to constricting jeans!  Anyone else have that problem?  Maybe it’s just me??

The pictures above are actually from a shoot I did with Alaina last Winter.  It was seriously cold that day.  I remember it oh so well.  So lets say, I’m looking forward to Fall/Winter clothing, but I’m still enjoying the warmth, sun, and pool time for now!  So, I’m not going to rush cooler weather!

What’s your favorite season to dress for??

Fashion Captive: The Blues

Dress:  Lilla P
Shoes:  Sam Edelman
Earrings:  Betsy Spain

I had a great outfit yesterday, that I was excited to post.  I got all gussied up, went to work, ate lunch, and then got food poisoning.  So I failed to get pictures.  Oopsy.

Today, I went with something a little easier.  This dress is super comfortable, and I think still super cute!

The wrap top and the ruched middle accentuate the waist. V-necks like this one are also good for those of us that are a little bigger on top it gives a slimmer look.   I went with this neutral wedge and added one of my favorite pairs of earrings.

I love jersey dresses for their comfort, but sometimes it’s difficult to find one’s with a good fit.  This dress is by Lilla P.  They do an excellent job of making shapes that are flattering for a woman’s body.  I highly recommend this brand.  This is one of my favorite go-to dresses.

I have some great outfits planned for next week!  I can’t wait to see what you guys think of them!

Fashion Captive: Closet Challenge

I have a pretty fabulous closet, I won’t deny it.  Unfortunately I seem to always to go the same things to wear though!  It’s usually because I’m not a morning person and run out of time.  So, the easiest thing to do is grab something I KNOW works.  I decided today, that I’m going to break this bad habit.  I’m going to attempt to wear as many different things as I can, in as many combos as I can.

Day 1 of my closet challenge, I went with this Nicole Miller top and skirt.  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE  loose fitting tops.  I had to be careful though to pick a more fitted bottom that showed a little more skin.  Otherwise I would have looked like I was wearing a shapeless sack.  Side note:  I do the same when I wear my boyfriend jeans.  Baggy jeans go with a more fitted top.

Now I’m off to figure out what Day 2 will be!!

Fashion Captive: Carolina Music Awards

I absolutely love working with the lovely Cameron Marion.  She’s a NC native and an amazing Country Music star.  The Carolina Music Awards were in Raleigh tonight, and I had the opportunity to style her for the event!!

She made a video of the fun we had chosing her look for the night.  Check it out!!

And here’s what we went with!!  Doesn’t she look amazing?!?

Be sure to check her out on facebook at:  www.facebook.com/cameronmarion  or her website:  www.cameronmarion.com !
